I usually do visit reports when I am going to conferences or trade shows in order to keep traces of what I have seen and the people I have met. I
found out that it helps me finding out the information I need few months later.
I have decided to share it, thinking it might be useful to others. Only thing I have in my version that is not in this one, is one page with all
business cards from people I met.
This is the first time I am sharing this kind of document, so I would be glad to have your feedback to improve or just to know if it was useful!
Thanks to all the people who took the time to show me their products and answer my questions.

The etiquette & behavior to be adopted while traveling in a foreign country is one of the most important things to be aware of. Ignorance of the norms followed by a particular place can often give offense to its locals. Here is what I found:
- Both men and women should dress in a sober manner. High heels and short-sleeved blouses are to be avoided as the Chinese frown on women who display too much.
- Business executives should not wear jeans and other casual clothing during business meetings. Women are advised not to wear revealing clothes.
- Avoid personal contact with people. Besides, it is highly inappropriate to touch a woman in public.
- Large hand movements should be avoided. Besides, never point while speaking to anyone. If it is necessary, use an open palm to do so.
- Remember that it is illegal to give gifts to government officials in China.
- There are some items and colors that are associated with death in China. They are clocks, straw sandals, a stork or crane, handkerchiefs and anything in white, blue or black. Avoid them.
- Punctuality is very important. Make it a point to arrive on time or early if you are the guest. Also remember not to start eating or drinking before the host initiates the proceedings.
- Business should not be discussed during meals in China. You should taste all the dishes offered as a cultural courtesy.
- Never drop the chopsticks during the meal as it is considered to a bad omen in China.
- In China people normally greet each other by bowing or nodding. For a handshake, always wait for the other person to offer his/her hand first.
- Formal introductions are common in China.
- Chinese take their decisions after much deliberation. Never show impatience in any such case.
- During business meetings during your travel to Beijing, make it a point to present and receive cards with both hands.
If you have some advises, they will be welcome. I need to learn how to use chopsticks…

I am always curious to know more about a place before going. As it is my first time in Beijing, I started to make some research about this town and I am sharing my findings with you. I’d be interested to visit some high tech places beside CCBN, so if you know some, I will appreciate if you could let me know via a comment to this post or through the contact form!
Overview
Beijing (also formerly known in English as Peking ) is a metropolis in northern China and the capital of the People’s Republic of China. It is one of the four municipalities of the PRC, which are equivalent to provinces in China’s administrative structure. The municipality of Beijing borders Hebei Province to the north, west, south, and for a small section in the east, and Tianjin Municipality to the southeast. Beijing is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China.

I started to prepare what I will need and test some applications.
TripIt (http://www.tripit.com)
I decided to try TripiT. I just emailed my electronic ticket and travel info to plans@tripit.com. And I got my plan with much more info:
- Organize trip details into one master online itinerary — even if arrangements are booked at multiple travel sites
- Automatically include maps, directions and weather in their master itinerary
- Have the option to book restaurants, theatre tickets, activities and more right from within the online itinerary
- Safely access travel plans online, share them, check-in for flights, or print an itinerary
Are you using TripIt? Do you have feedback, tips?
iPhone Apps
I installed some free applications which I thought my be useful for this trip:
- “Devise” which allow to automatically see the price in several currency
- “World Nomads Mandarin” which provide many basic survival sentences in mandarin as well as a language lesson. It is well organized by categories and seems quite complete for a free apps
- “Metros Guide Lite” which is a service for the China Metro Transfer, metro fare, metro route map
Any apps you know or use while travelling that might be useful?
I also ordered business cards and some moo minicards via Moo, bought a 2Go new memory card for my camera, as well as a paper guide to Beijing….
If you have already been to Beijing, let me know what you recommend!
